How to configure a VoIP client

On Linux with twinkle

There are several possible VoIP clients (Linephone, Ekiga,..). we will focus here on twinkle but all the clients should work assuming that they are properly configured.

Please note that Twinkle and linephone are both installed by default on the Emerginov USB key. In the following section we will deal with Ubuntu distribution but it can be installed on any distribution (see the tuto for fedora here).

Installation

sudo apt-get install twinkle

configuration

Applications > Internet > Twinkle.

On the first start, twinkle invites you to configure your account

Click on OK to create a new profile

Select profile editor (middle)

enter the name of your new profile

Enter your credentials as follow:

  • your login (received by mail during the account creation )
  • Domain : emerginov.org or emerginov.orange.sn or emerginov.orange.mu (depending on your platform, it is indicated in the mail)
  • Authentication name = your login
  • Your password

In the SIP configuration section:

Enter emerginov.org in Registrar

In the Presence configuration section, disable Publier la disponibilité au démarrage. The presence feature is not enabled on Emerginov networks.

Click on Ok

Modify the system parameters if needed

Click on Ok

It is finished ! If everything is fine, your account is configurerd and you can call.

You can test it by dialing sip:YOUR_PROJECT_NAME@YOUR_EMERGINOV_DOMAIN. The SIP url shall be reminded in your self-care page.

Please note that the keyboard is not displayed by default. Click on DTMF in the menu bar to get the keys.

On Windows/Mac with eyebeam

There are also lots of possible free VoIP clients. One of them is X-Lite 4.0 from counterpath.

Installation

download the client on the counterpath web site [1]

A setting window shall pop up during th installation. If not, start the client then configure it with your emerginov credentials.

You must have a login, password, domain.

Configuration

click on File > account settings then Add and select SIP

unselect IM/presence then fill in the account form

   user ID: <your login>
   domain: emerginov.org
   Display name: whatever you want...
   password: <your password>

Then in the Domain proxy section enable Registry with domain and receive calls

Then click on OK and close the account management window

The client must register (display name shall appear in the title bar)

Please note that by default the keyboard is not displayed. You must click on the little keyboard next to the Enter a name or a number window
